  • Description

From the Monte Serra site (Contrada) and from Nerello Mascalese vines about 12 years old. This is a small production Sicilian red, with just 6,000 bottles made per year. It inspires with its lively taste, enormous energy and terrific minerality and ends in a wonderfully long finish.

A wine particularly suited for red meats, wild fowl and mature cheese. Drink now until 2030.

93/100 Points, Robert Parker, Oct 2019 "In its second year now, the 2017 Etna Rosso Contrada Monte Serra is a slightly more fragile and subdued wine compared to its cousin from the Contrada Cavaliere. The floral impact of this wine leaves a lasting impression, and the quality of fruit veers toward wild berries and cranberries. There is a note of plush or succulent sweetness that seems very specific to this wine. The tannins are silky, and the wine is mid-weight in texture but noticeably long in persistence. This pure expression of Nerello Mascalese would pair nicely with fresh tuna and capers served with tomato sauce on pasta. Some 6,000 bottles were made."

Wine Spectator "A harmonious, medium-bodied red, with supple tannins and a light juiciness to the plumped cherry, black tea leaf, dried fig and smoke-tinged mineral flavors. Chewy finish."

14.5% abv. Etna D.O.C. Rosso appellation.

Nerello Mascalese, the noble indigenous red grape of Mount Etna Production area South-western slope of Mount Etna in Contrada Cavaliere (part of the village of Santa Maria di Licodia), particularly suited for its high elevation and abundant luminosity.
