Spain's vermouth excellence is embodied in the Lustau Vermut Rojo, introduced by the esteemed sherry producer in late 2015. Crafted from a blend of amontillado and PX wines, its profound, earthy, and subtly sweet notes originate from its Sherry base. For an authentic Spanish Vermut experience, savour it over ice with a slice of orange and an olive.
Founded in 1896 by Mr. José Ruiz-Berdejo, Bodegas Lustau has a humble origin rooted in cultivating vines on his land, Nuestra Señora de la Esperanza. José, a court clerk, produced wines at the vineyard house, later selling them to major exporting wineries. Each component of this blend (Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez) ages individually in its Solera. Post-blending, the wine undergoes an additional three years of aging in a solera of 33 American oak casks before bottling. Exhibiting a dark mahogany colour with bronze hues, it presents concentrated aromas of ripe fruits, mocca, cocoa, and toffee. The palate is remarkably complex, featuring clean acidity and flavours of raisins, nuts, crystallised orange, and candied peel. Ideal pairings include rich cakes, egg-based puddings, and blue cheeses like stilton and gorgonzola. It also serves as an exceptional digestif for those with a sweet tooth.
